Good drawings and a good budget don't build anything on their own. Site supervision is the daily work of coordinating trades, keeping the site safe, checking quality and solving small problems before they turn into big ones.
What our supervisors do all day
The day starts with a walk of the site: who's on, what's planned, what's arriving. Then come the conflicts nobody saw coming. The plumber needs the same wall the framer is about to close. A delivery shows up early. A detail on the drawings doesn't quite work in the field. Our supervisors sort these out, keep the work moving and write it all down.
They're also your eyes. If something isn't being built to the drawings, or the quality isn't where it should be, they catch it before it gets covered up.
A safe site is a well-run site
No schedule is worth an injury. Our supervisors run site orientations, hold regular safety talks and keep the site tidy and organized. In Ontario that means meeting the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the regulations for construction projects, and we take that responsibility seriously.
Quality you'll be glad of later
Some of the most important work in a building ends up hidden: waterproofing, fire stopping, insulation, the blocking behind the cabinets. We inspect it before it's covered, keep photo records and book the third-party inspections and tests the job calls for. When the ceilings close, you should be confident about what's above them.
Will the same supervisor stay on my project?
We aim for that. The person who starts the job knows it best by the end. If anything changes, we'll introduce the new person properly and make sure nothing gets lost in the handover.
How will I know what's happening on site?
You'll get regular updates with progress, photos, upcoming work and anything that needs your attention. You're also welcome on site any time, with a hard hat and a quick orientation.
Do you supervise renovations as well as new builds?
Yes. Renovations and fit-outs in occupied buildings, like medical centres and shopping malls, need especially careful supervision, because the people around the site are still working, shopping or seeing patients.
