A sustainable, accessible and age-friendly rental community at the top of the Hamilton escarpment, mixing apartment buildings and stacked townhomes around generous greenspace.
The brief
Victoria Park Community Homes and EllisDon partnered to bid on surplus school lands released by the City, guided by a shared vision for an environmentally sustainable, safe and age-friendly community in Hamilton's Yeoville neighbourhood. The site's escarpment location called for a design that respects the area's character and fits into the existing community fabric.
Design approach
The master plan includes seven buildings: five stacked townhouse blocks and two six-storey apartment buildings. Forty-seven percent of the lot is preserved for landscaping, new community pathways and enhanced greenspace, and more than 26% of all units are designed to be fully accessible.
